Dario Ortiz is a Colombian neo-realist artist born in Ibagué, Colombia in 1968. He is known for his compositions based on classical themes, usually biblical characters that he brings to the present day. From a very early age he shows an innate talent for the arts, participating successfully in painting contests for children and youth. At the age of twelve his father teaches him the rudiments of oil painting and at the age of 15 he participates in his first collective exhibition in the gallery Arte y Parte in Ibagué. In 1987 he made his first individual exhibition "Faces and characters" in the Café de la Paz, he studied Chinese painting techniques in the workshop of master Song Xin Ru. He studied Chemistry at the National University of Colombia for one year and Law at the Externado de Colombia for two years. In 1988 she worked as an assistant in the restoration workshop of Pilar Perez and in 1990 she did reintegration in the workshop of Alexandra Matiz. In 1989 he leaves the university and devotes himself entirely to painting. His work can be found in important public collections such as the MOLAA Museum of Latin American Art in Los Angeles, the Presidential Palace of Bratislava in Slovakia, the Museo Civico di Abano Terme in Italy, the Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Guayaquil, the Museo Maguncia in Buenos Aires, the Museo de Antioquia in Medellin and the Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Bogota, among others

Darío Ortiz’s first verified exhibition was Arte Joven Del Tolima 1988 at Biblioteca Darío Echandía - Sala de exposiciones del Banco de la República - Ibagué in Ibague in 1988, and the most recent exhibition was Cuerpos Políticos at MUZAC Museo Zenú de Arte Contemporaneo in Monteria in 2022.
Darío Ortiz is most frequently exhibited in Colombia, but also had exhibitions in Mexico, United States and elsewhere. Ortiz has at least 60 solo shows and 160 group shows over the last 34 years (for more information, see biography). Ortiz has also been in no less than 12 art fairs and in 6 biennials. A notable show was 58th Venice Biennale - May You Live In Interesting Times at La Biennale di Venezia in Venice in 2019. Other notable shows were at Beijing International Art Biennale in Beijing and Instituto Cultural Cabañas in Guadalajara.
Darío Ortiz has been exhibited with Fernando Botero and Luis Felipe Cifuentes.
Darío Ortiz’s art is in at least 20 museum collections, at Museum of Latin American Art (MOLAA) in Long Beach, CA and Museo de la Secretaría de Hacienda y Crédito Públicoin Mexico City among others.
Darío Ortiz is ranked among the Top 10,000 globally, and among the Top 10 in Colombia.
